2010 turned out to be something of a turning point for Bilia Denmark, one of the country’s biggest car dealers with a market share of 2.6 per cent (2.0). After a couple of tough years, the operation managed to post a profit. During 2010 the car market increased by 37 per cent to 153,562 cars (112,448). The market for transport vehicles increased by 7 per cent to 16,199 units (15,203).
During the year Bilia Denmark delivered 4,065 new cars (2,237), 2,632 used cars (2,210), 319 new transport vehicles (866) and 142 used transport vehicles (200).
Demand for service increased at the end of 2010, and turnover increased by 3 per cent. The Service Business reported better earnings due to increased efficiency. The Vehicle Business reported much better earnings for 2010 compared with last year, mainly due to an increased gross profit margin in sales of both new and used cars. Far-reaching measures have been adopted in recent years, reducing annual overheads by about SEK 100 M and tied-up capital by SEK 200 M. At the same time, new procedures and processes have been introduced, making the company much better equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
A big challenge is the increasing competition. In the past two years, four new Ford dealers and three new Renault dealers have been established in the area around Copenhagen.
Net turnover in Denmark increased during the year to SEK 1,523 M (1,411), equivalent to 10 per cent (10) of the Group’s total net turnover. Operating profit amounted to SEK 14 M (loss: 38).
